The day started early for me to pack the car ready to pick up Phil ( staying at Abdy’s house whilst he is in Europe)Mike then Ellio.
The previous evening my family kindly helped me load the bikes on the roof racks… not an easy job with my grandson Cooper and son Chris helping and making my job a lot easier.
We were on our way from Ellio’s house in Doncaster by about 9.00 am which was quite good.
The other 3 guys being Steve( tour leader), Des and Anthony had an early start to catch the 7.00 am train from Southern Cross ….
Our trip up to Echuca was quite good and rather surprisingly there were very few potholes! We had a morning coffee and change of drivers at Heathcote which was about at the halfway point.
We arrived to meet the train travelers at Echuca at about 1.30 pm … 3 hour drive from Melbourne. The train travelers had arrived some hour earlier….
The meeting point was the Beechworth Bakery at Echuca…. Seems the bakey has a licence from its big brother at Beechworth… the food was good!
After leaving Bach we changed into our riding gear at the local convenience block and whilst Ellio did the shopping for dinner and breakfast the rest of us made our way to our accommodation some 30 kms away.
Fortunately the wind was favourable and despite a couple of light showers the weather was good. The road surface was largely good gravel roads with little or no potholes or corrigations.
The ride into our accommodation at the Wakiti Resort was timed perfectly for us to freshen up before Ellio “cooked up a storm” for dinner.
It was steak, sausages and chicken wings with salad followed by apple pie and ice cream!
What a wonderful end to the day.
Even better knowing the Trumps Republicans were soundly defeated in the midterms.
The Wakiti Resort was very comfortable but had little or no connection to the telecommunications system … it was so remote
After dinner I went to bed being quite tired after a long day,
The pictures are:
The mighty Murray with some houseboats
Crossing the Goulburn River… we follow this for most of the trip
Our home for the night… very comfortable
